OhmBase ("the app") is a field tools application for electricians. This policy explains how we handle your information. The short version: we don't collect it.
All data you enter into OhmBase — including jobs, hours, profile information, certifications, calculator results, wage rates, and settings — is stored locally on your device using your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export or share it.
The same applies to everything else the app keeps for you: site notes and photos (with their date/time and optional GPS stamps, before/after pairings and room/area tags), customers, invoices, bids, estimates, assemblies, stock lists, permit and inspection records, apprenticeship program hours, exam-practice history, travel entries and the traveler-compare figures you enter. All of it stays in your browser's local storage and in the backup files you create.
OhmBase does not require or support user accounts. There is no sign-up, no login, and no authentication. You are never asked to provide an email address, password, or any personal identifier to use the app.
We do not collect, transmit, store, or process any personal data. We do not use cookies for tracking purposes, do not collect device identifiers, do not serve advertisements, and do not sell or share your data with anyone. The two things worth spelling out:
Anonymous usage counts. OhmBase counts how often its features are used so we know what to improve — for example, that the voltage-drop calculator was opened or a timesheet PDF was exported. These counts are sent to GoatCounter, a privacy-focused analytics service, and contain no account, name, job, hours, pay, note, photo, or location information. They cannot identify you. GoatCounter does not use cookies and does not store your IP address in a form that identifies you; see GoatCounter's privacy policy for details. Counts are only sent when you are online; the app works fully without them. We do not use advertising trackers or any other analytics.
Location. OhmBase never collects your location. If you turn on "Add GPS location to photo stamps" in Settings, your phone asks for permission the first time you attach a photo, and the coordinates are written into that photo and saved with your note on your device only. They leave your device only if you yourself share, export, or back up that photo or note. The setting is off by default and can be turned off at any time.
OhmBase includes an optional feature that lets you submit IBEW local wage data to help build a national wage database. If you choose to use this feature, it opens your device's email client with a pre-formatted message. You control whether to send it. The email is sent directly from your email account to our inbox — OhmBase does not intercept, store, or process this email. Your email address becomes visible to us only if you choose to send the message. We use submitted wage data solely to improve the app's built-in rate database. We do not publish submitter names or email addresses.
OhmBase allows you to export your data as a JSON backup file and restore from a previous backup. These files are created and stored on your device. We never have access to your backup files unless you voluntarily share them with us.
OhmBase is designed to work entirely offline after initial installation. The app uses a service worker to cache itself for offline use. No network connection is required for any core functionality.
OhmBase loads one external library (jsPDF) from a public CDN (cdnjs.cloudflare.com) for PDF export functionality, and sends the anonymous usage counts described above to GoatCounter. These are the only external network requests the app makes. We do not control either service's privacy practices; their privacy policies are available on their websites.
OhmBase is designed for professional electricians and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Since we don't collect email addresses or user accounts, we cannot notify you directly of changes — please review this page periodically.
